Okey Bakassi

Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, famously known as Okey Bakassi — is one of Nigeria’s most respected comedians and actors. Born on October 23, 1969, in Mbaise, Imo State, Okey’s journey is a powerful mix of talent, dedication, and evolution.
Early Life & Education
Okey is the eldest of five children. His father was a military officer, and his mother, a nurse. He began schooling at Alvan Ikoku Demonstration School, then moved to Federal Government College, Port Harcourt. He later earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Rivers State University in 1992.
His passion for entertaining began during secondary school but took root in university, where he joined a performance group called Theatre Colleagues — blending drama with comedy.
Career Breakthrough
After his NYSC in Lagos, Okey met top director Zeb Ejiro, landing a role in the 1993 TV series Fortune. He played “Nick,” a bodyguard — and from there, his acting career soared.
