The Rise of Broda Shaggi – From Street Skits to Stardom
In the heart of Ogun State, Nigeria, a young talent was born—Samuel Animashaun Perry, widely known across Africa today as Broda Shaggi. Born on September 18, 1993, in the town of Ikenne, Samuel grew up with creativity deeply rooted in his veins. His father, a dedicated drama teacher, unknowingly laid the foundation for what would become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comedic personalities.
Growing up in Sagamu, Shaggi’s exposure to performance art began early, and that spark followed him into adulthood. He later studied Creative Arts at the University of Lagos, where his passion for acting, storytelling, and satire blossomed.
A Character is Born
While in university, Samuel began experimenting with comedic characters and performances. He shared these skits on Instagram, using satire to reflect the experiences and humor of everyday Nigerian life. Among the many personas he created, one character struck gold—Broda Shaggi. With his eccentric delivery, quick wit, and classic street-smart Yoruba humor, Broda Shaggi became a viral sensation.
His breakthrough came with the comedy skit “Jesu in Mushin,” a parody that swept across Nigerian social media platforms, earning him millions of followers almost overnight. That success paved the way for collaborations, brand endorsements, and eventually, roles in Nollywood productions.
Beyond Skits: An Actor and Musician Emerges
Broda Shaggi didn’t stop at skits. He ventured into acting, making a name for himself in Nollywood with his unique comedic flair. His efforts were recognized in a big way—he won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) for Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie or TV Series two years in a row, in 2022 and 2023.
As a musician, he also made waves with tracks like “Oya Hit Me”, a catchy blend of Afrobeats and Fuji rhythms that showcased his versatility beyond comedy.

With accolades like The Future Awards Africa Prize for Comedy and the City People Music Award for Comedy Act of the Year, Broda Shaggi has solidified his reputation as a multitalented entertainer. His ability to blend music, acting, and humor has made him one of Nigeria’s most influential figures in entertainment.
