Basketmouth (Bright Okpocha)

Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, was born on 14 September 1978 in Lagos State, though he hails from Abia State in southeastern Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary education in Apapa, Lagos, and later gained admission into the University of Benin, Edo State, where he studied Sociology and Anthropology, alongside his brother, Godwin.

Comedy & Entertainment

Basketmouth began his artistic journey as a drummer in 1991 and later ventured into rap music in 1994. He co-founded two rap groups—Da Psychophats and Da Oddz—but did not achieve much success in the Nigerian music scene. This led him to pivot into stand-up comedy, where he found his true calling.

His rise to stardom began in the early 2000s, eventually making him one of the most recognizable faces in African comedy. He gained a global following with his acclaimed stand-up comedy concert series, Basketmouth Uncensored, which he has performed across various countries.

In 2005 and 2006, Basketmouth won the National Comedy Award and was named Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year. He was also nominated at the 2021 Humour Awards Academy, alongside other top Nigerian comedians.
