Akpororo (Bowoto Jephthah Oluwatiseyifumi Tanimola

Bowoto Jephthah Oluwatiseyifumi Tanimola — popularly known as Akpororo — is a Nigerian stand-up comedian, singer, and actor with a unique blend of church-inspired and street-smart humor.
Although he hails from Ilaje in Ondo State, Akpororo was born and raised in Warri, Delta State, where his love for performance began. He started out as a local gospel singer, but in 2008, he took a bold step into comedy by joining the National Comedy Challenge by Opa Williams — and won the Calabar zone.
In 2009, Akpororo moved to Lagos to chase his dreams. After finishing second in his first attempt at AY’s Open Mic Challenge, he came back stronger and won it on his second try. But his real breakthrough came in 2013, when he performed at Basketmouth’s Laff and Jam show. From there, he became a regular at top shows like AY Live.
On August 12, 2014, he headlined his first major comedy event, Akpororo vs Akpororo, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos. It was a massive success, with top entertainers in attendance.
That same year, he ventured into acting, featuring in “Headgone” and “The Antique.” His role in Headgone earned him multiple nominations at the 2015 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards.
What makes Akpororo stand out?
His comedy mixes religious themes with everyday humor. He often jokes about mentally ill characters — a style inspired by his past, when he worked as an attendant for mentally challenged people seeking healing in church.
In 2015, Akpororo signed a major 2-year endorsement deal with Airtel Nigeria, a telecom giant.
He’s also earned several awards and nominations, including:
-
Best Comedic Act at the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards
-
Best Comedian of the Year at the Naija FM Comedy Awards
Akpororo is married to Josephine Ijeoma Abraham, and the couple tied the knot in November 2015. He’s also pursuing a degree in Sociology at Lagos State University.
From the streets of Warri to center stage in Lagos, Akpororo has built a career on faith, talent, and bold originality — proving that laughter, when rooted in truth, can cross every boundary.
